These are probably some of the ugliest C3 Corvette crash
pictures you will ever see. I do not know much about this crash but I do
know that the driver and lone occupant survived. So what may have
attributed to his survival in such a horrific wreck without air bags and the
safety features of cars that are built today? A couple of factors come to
play here. The C3 cars have a heavy steel roll cage built around the
driver and passenger compartment so this provided protection during the
rollovers. The heavy steel frames of these cars help to keep the the
passenger compartment attached. Also fiberglass absorbs a lot of the
impact when these cars crash.
