Do you own a Cortina MKII?
I would like to add a database here of all the
owners and their cars. I would love to add yours. I would appreciate
any or all of the following information if you happen to own one:
Currently restoring my Mk II GT to enter in Targa style road races
in Australia. Just as a note all Mk II GTs in Australia have a two piece front bumper and chrome striping over the wheel arches and a
bloody great GT stipe on the bonnet and down the side of the car.
Great site would love to get hold of a Mk II Lotus but they are as rare as rocking horse poo over here.
It was purchased 2 years ago as a project car and stayed in my garage for 2 years. I'm finally getting
down to rebuilding the machine. It's NOT a Lotus but I love her just the same.
Bought the car from a guy who worked in the garage with my
father. He had rebuilt it and at that time was in black and
silver. He drove her daily for about 12 years. He took her off
the road again and rebuilt her for the second time, this time all in black
The only thing left to do is the engine. She has a few unusual
factory fitted items, a factory rear screen heater as per modern cars and
walnut finished woodwork inside.
The Cortina was owned originally by an old bloke who bought from new. When he failed his eyesight test and had to hand in his
license he sold it on. A fellow uni student bought it & drove it for
a few years. During this time it was painted with house paint using a 4 inch brush. No, Im not kidding.
After the previous owner graduated he put in on the market.
I bought a 68 Cortina 440 to drive around during 1st year Uni about 3 years ago. However that little beast failed re-registering
inspections due to rust. I started the hunt for a better Cortina. I found my current Cortina a little over a year and a half ago.
I drove it to the end of its rego and pulled it off.
Was taken off the road for restoration in 1986. Stood for 14 years before I found her.
Ain't restoration a long hard expensive slog.
FOUND IN SCRAP YARD WITH NO NUMBER PLATES.
LOOKING FOR EARLY TWO DOOR FOR MY NEXT PROJECT. I MUST BE MAD.
Had so many Cortinas I've lost count.
Obtained this at 4000 miles, was in my then girlfriends now wifes name, then in mine, sold it brought it back 8 years later.
Is a bit tatty now but all there, used daily. Have owned about 10 years this time round.
This is actually a GTE model, a New Zealand only model which
as far as I can tell equates to the GT model exported to the USA.
THIS IS THE SAME AS TONY BRAAM'S. IT IS A 1969 ENGLISH GT EXPORTED TO NZ AND ASSEMBLED AT LOWER HUTT.
FORD NZ THEN ADDED SOME 16 PIECES TO THE GT AND MARKETED IT AS A GTE.
ALSO OWN A 1968 ENGLISH DELUXE MKII STATION WAGON EX SINGAPORE
NZ 1970, ANOTHER GTE AND A 1966 CORTINA SUPER SALOON. HAVE A SPARE SW
AND ABOUT 5 MKII BODIES IN VARIOUS STAGES OF DISREPAIR & PARTS.
I was able to buy the car for $50. The lady just wanted it out of her yard. It took a while but my 'baby' now looks and drives
great.
All original, looking for original radio.
Our pride and joy, oops, I forget the kids are now.
Unknown at moment. Taken in part exchange for a '62 Beetle I
was selling. Needed a gearbox which I now have.
I used my two door 1600E from 1985 to 1990 for daily
traffic. Afterwards sold it and believe is still owned and driven in
Switzerland. The car is painted light metallic (blue-mink met)
Any LHD 1965/1966 MkI 1500GT Cortina in original condition
available?
Complete ground up rebuild, pearl black paintwork. New
seals, detailed underbody, complete new insides. Wood grain dash and
center console. New electronic gauges with chrome surrounds.
Engine: Two litre Pinto engine from MkIII Cortina. Fuel
injected and supercharged ( 1GGZE Jap supercharger running 15PSI boost.
Forged steel pistons and rods. Full port and polished head. Dry sump, four
coil ignition, twin thermo fans and various other power mods.
Transmission: Five speed Toyota Celica box through a
Dellow conversion bell housing. Modified prop shaft, 411 LSD diff . Gear
box is electronic sequential with hydraulic actuators changing the gears
and pressing the clutch. This gives very quick gear changes and was
inspired by formula one.
Performance: Due to diff and 8000 red line accelaration
is fast but hasnt been timed. I have no problem with most V8's except the
new HSV's. Keeps up with a Subaru Impreza WRX at 10PSI boost.
But kills them with full boost. The main reason for building this car was
to prove that the bloody WRX doesn't rule the road and it is possible to
build a car to out do it. The top speed is limited by the diff to about
110 mile but that's too fast anyway.
Bought the car off a young girl who didn't think it needed
oil and thus had a 'dry sump' the original 1600 was cooked but still had a
bit of toe. I looked into the history of the car and it appears that
the car was owned by an old bloke who took treated it like a baby. It was
specially built for him as GT units were unavaliable. It has all the GT
options. Diff braces, six clock dash, GT chrome, vinyl roof. but it isn't
a GT
I thus did not want to restore it to standard 4 door and I couldn't
try to pass it off as a GT. So I decided to modify it as much as I could
to make it suit my needs. From the outside it still looks very original
and still has that clasical frair about it. The wood really sets it off.
Plenty more work to do on it yet though
CARLOS JORGE MONTEIRO COSTA
Good car with good drive. I owned many cars but it is the
best.
I bought 3 years ago for classic races, but i like it very
much, so i restored it and now it is on finishing restoration. Probably I
buy another one for races.
Under restoration. Shell is South African, using 1600e donar
car. I am fitting a 1800 Zetec, engine management, 4 branch and twin
40s, 5 speed box and atlas rear end. Shell has been taken back to bare
metal . I had painted the under side c15 cherry black but have now decided
to try and get the paint code for the white used on the lotus. I will
update on my slow progress.
No rust stock looks like new. new paint.what can i say i
love it. She just needs some balls. Im putting a V6 capri engine under the
bonnet with a 5 speed gearbox.
It's the fourth MK II Cortina I've owned and definitely the
nicest one with only 45,000 miles on it white with red interior. I'm
making it a kinda part restored part roadracer version.
The car sat in someones yard for 24 years til it was
impounded the guy I bought it from got it because his buddy at the Police
dept saw it in impound lot and told him. I bought it on a tip from Ken at
Dave Bean Eng. the other guy was selling because he got a MK I he always
wanted so I LUCKED OUT big time.
Future either sell or continue mods, not sure yet
:)
Bought as an mot failure and rebuilt as
standard. This lasted for 4 years until the 1600 went bang. This was
replaced with a 2.1 pinto which has over the past few years been improved
and as just been dynoed at 170bhp at the flywheel.Backing is up is a5
speed gearbox and an rs diff of 3.54 ratio. With this gearing 70mph is
reached at only 3000rpm so i have a theoretical top speed of about 135mph
but it gets a bit unstable as the needle goes past the full beam light!
Suspension is all uprated by Leda and lowered by about 5 inches ,wheels
are revolution four spokes.
Great fun at chasing RS turbos, and can regularly
be seen in classic ford magazine, and on the road as she is my only form of
transport and used daily all year round.
I am in the process of restoring it. The car is
in pretty good condition. I am the original owner.
My brother bought her some 10 years ago. She is
still waiting for restoration.
Only a few know Ford Cortinas are in Hungary,
there are only 5 Mk2`s here, including mine. I cannot find parts for her,
in one Ford shop I was told type Ford Cortina does not exist.
Also have a '66 1600GT 2 door, but don't have
the VIN in front of me!
Oh - the clutch is TOO light!
The '69 was restored in the early '80's, and while
the entire car is original - down to the dealer license plate frame, the
car was painted a different color.
Just bought the car as a restoration project.
She stood on the previous owners drive for 3 years after exhaust fell
off! I gave her 100 and she started up after cleaning the points
and freeing the clutch and brakes and then I drove her home. I hope
to have her turbocharged and running 14 second 1/4's by the end of the
year.
Normal car used is a 1963 Cortina MK1 1700 stage2
5 speed 4door.
